Miedema was drafted fourth overall by the Spitfires during the first round of the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection on June 4. He became the highest selected Quinte Red Devils player in the OHL U16 draft.

“Excellent day for the hockey club,” Spitfires general manager Bill Bowler stated in a release on Friday. “We can’t wait to watch Ethan perform on the ice. He is a special player and has a bright future with our club.”

The club announced Miedema will wear No. 19. He was able to travel with his family – parents Jeremy and Amy and younger brothers Colby and Zachary – to Windsor for socially-distanced arena and city tours.

On Saturday, Miedema stated on his Twitter account (@ethanmiedema_): “The past couple days in Windsor have been so surreal. I’d like to thank everyone that has helped make me feel so welcome, which includes all of the Staff, Owners and my Billet family. I’m so excited to officially sign with the Spitfires and can’t wait for the future!”

The Spitfires will host the Sarnia Sting on OHL opening night Oct. 7.
