Day 14 of my Olympic audio interview series features the head coach and high performance director of the Canadian women’s softball team…Mark Smith.
In this interview, we discuss Mark’s friendship with former teammate Marty Kernaghan, a Grafton native who was an inaugural inductee into the Cobourg & District Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, as well as how Mark’s wife, Ann Dodge, is a former Olympian, why he’s excited for his own Olympic experience, the reaction for the team when softball was announced for the 2020 Summer Games for the first time since 2008, why Canadians should be excited about this group of softball players and how the team has supported the players during COVID-19.

NOTE: While we wait for local sports to return following the COVID-19 pandemic, a big part of JG Sports Media’s website content will be audio interviews, like this one. Guests will include representatives from local sports organizations as well as other notable guests, many who have ties to this area and even some who don’t.
I love the Olympics and this series will run from July 24 until Aug. 9. This is the time the Games would have been on before they got postponed until 2021.
