JG Sports Media’s latest audio interview guest is a former assistant coach with the Cobourg Cougars and the current head coach of the Timmins Rock…Corey Beer.

Beer was a member of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Cougars staff for five seasons, including as an associate coach during the RBC Cup national junior A championship victory in 2017. He has since worked as head coach of Timmins of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League for the past three seasons.

Corey Beer has been head coach of the Timmins Rock for three seasons now after spending the previous five as an assistant coach with the Cobourg Cougars.

In this interview, we talk about how Beer got into coaching, the opportunity former Cougars head coach Curtis Hodgins gave him, his development as a coach in Cobourg, the RBC Cup win, being hired by the Rock, the transition from assistant to head coach and what he’s enjoyed about living and coaching in Timmins. The Rock have developed into a top team in Canada during the past three seasons and Beer’s work has been recognized nationally. He’s served as an assistant coach for Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge the past two seasons and in January of this year was the head coach for Team East at the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospects Game in Hamilton.

NOTE: While we wait for local sports to return following the COVID-19 pandemic, a big part of JG Sports Media’s website content will be audio interviews, like this one.

Guests will include representatives from local sports organizations as well as other notable guests, many who have ties to this area and even some who don’t.
