AUDIO: Interview with Northumberland Baseball president Gord Kelly

JG Sports Media spoke with Northumberland Baseball Association president Gord Kelly to get an update on the organization.

Baseball Ontario has suspended in-person activities until at least June 15, so Northumberland Baseball will continue to follow the direction from its governing body.

Kelly said, in addition to the guidance from Baseball Ontario, the local association will also follow Baseball Canada as well as directives from the Ontario medical officer of health and provincial government.

“Everything that we do as an association is based on the safety of our kids and our coaches, so as much as we want to get out there and play and work with the kids, we base everything off of the medical officer of health of Ontario, the local health unit and our governing body,” he said.

Northumberland Baseball’s executive met this week and have decided to return money to the parents of house league players. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a season. All options will be considered, if it’s deemed safe to proceed.

“If we have a chance to run some type of program in the next few months, we will then have a sign-up again and look to put something together,” Kellys said.

NOTE: While we wait for local sports to return following the COVID-19 pandemic, a big part of JG Sports Media’s website content will be audio interviews, like this one.

Guests will include representatives from local sports organizations as well as other notable guests, many who have ties to this area and even some who don’t.
